Our Favorite Eco-Friendly Home Swaps
I've been transitioning from plastic to more eco-friendly alternatives lately. I feel really good about using sustainable and safer products in my home. As I get older and educate myself on the dangers of plastic, the more I want to ensure that I'm doing what I can to make an impact. Glass is naturally one of the easiest and most popular ways to replace plastic containers and storage, but it's not always the most convenient.
Linen has always been one of my favorite fabrics to wear and use around the home. When I learned of Natural Linens Boutique, a female-owned and operated business with a vision to promote eco-friendly and sustainable living, I was sold on using linen in another light. I adore their minimally-designed, reusable products with an emphasis on simplicity and functionality. Each piece in the reusable product line is handcrafted from organic fabric, aimed to make eco-friendly alternative more accessible and affordable.
One of the easiest swaps for me were replacing my plastic sandwich and snack bags with these extremely chic 100% organic cotton sandwich bags. They have a fold-over top that you just tuck in to close. They're reusable (you can throw them in the wash) and they help spare the environment of excess plastic use—and they're not so bad to look at, either. I've been using them to store fresh herbs for cooking. So chic!
Another sneaky place that plastic is hiding? Your shower. I never really thought about how I was supporting the plastic industry by using a loofah to bathe, but surprise, it's made of plastic mesh. Luckily, the brand also carries a line of super chic sherpa cotton washcloths that makes it easy to switch. They're gentle enough to use on your face—I use them nightly to remove excess makeup and to buff my skin. It leaves my complexion feeling extremely soft.
